The Challenge
A regional healthcare network was hampered by a disconnected matrix of on-premise legacy Electronic Health Record (EHR) databases. Patient scheduling coordinates required manual file transfers across administrative departments, leading to critical entry errors, long patient wait-times, and increased security exposure.
Crucially, the system had to comply with strict HIPAA regulation audits, guaranteeing complete end-to-end data encryption, comprehensive access logs, and prompt data failovers under tight budget requirements.
The Solution
FrontApp deployed a vetted engineering team (1 Onshore Architect, 2 Backend Engineers, 1 Frontend Engineer, and 1 QA Tester) to build a HIPAA-compliant orchestration portal. We structured a direct FHIR API link layer interfacing with legacy datasets while establishing a modern React dashboard in the cloud.
The system leverages AWS GovCloud nodes, securing sensitive health records (PHI) behind robust Cognito authentication profiles, restricting dataset access solely to authorized medical operators.
System Integration Flow
Technical Implementation
To avoid impacting live patient databases, we set up an event-driven queue sync pipeline. Write actions from doctors are buffered in secure queues before being committed back to the main EHR database, eliminating system lockouts and transaction timeouts during heavy load hours.
Results & Business Impact
In less than 90 days, the solution was deployed and approved by security auditors:
- ✓ 45% Administrative Reduction: Manual coordination hours were redirected into face-to-face patient time.
- ✓ Zero Audit Warnings: 100% data access logging fully satisfies HIPAA verification scans.
- ✓ Uptime SLA: Maintained 99.99% database gateway availability during peak hours.
